PLEASE NOTE LAKE COUNTY FOREST PRESERVES HAVE ASKED TO RESCHEDULE UNTIL THURSDAY MARCH 11TH! WITH THE MELTING OF SNOW TODAY THE TRAILS ARE VERY WET AND WITH THE COOL NIGHT THEY EXPECT THE TRAILS TO BE ICY TOMORROW.
Maple Syrup Hike at Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve: Learn the "sweet science" behind how trees make sap, and how the Forest Preserves staff turns that sap into real maple syrup as you hike along with Environmental Education Manager, Alyssa Firkus. We’ll meet at the parking lot adjacent to the Welcome Center at Ryerson Woods at 9:30am on Thursday, March 11. The parking lot is at the very end of the Preserve entrance trail…head straight until you can’t go any farther.
Alyssa will also share interesting facts about the nature of trees and beautiful Ryerson Woods as it transitions to spring. The hike will be about 45 minutes, and please be sure to wear sturdy, waterproof boots since the trails will likely be very wet and muddy. Also, please wear a face mask and social distance during the hike.
